Fourteen

Fourteen,, a minimalist composition for mallet instruments, piano, bass and percussion, is a revision of an earlier work "Nine, Seven and Five". The time signature is 14/8 and it is divided 2,2,3,2,2,3. .

The original composition and this one has a primary accent note on the ninth, eighth note beat, of every other measure in the opening and closing sections of the piece.

Note groups of five notes and seven notes appear throughout and rhythmic interactions occur between them. Two mallet instruments were added, vibraphone and large marimba to provide intersecting lines that form cords or complement each other.

Fourteen is the third composition in a series exploring imperfect meters that I call "Numbers".
